Colonel Loomis L Langdon  was a noted US officer remembered for his service  the Civil War Battle of Olustee, Florida; he also first raised the Union Flag over Richmond  in 1865. Postwar Langdon was a noted Indian Fighter and is remembered as the advocate for Geronimo's band of  Apache Prisoners of War at Fort Marion, Florida in 1887. 
An original  letter from Langdon, at Fort Hamilton, New York,  March 20, 1891 to wartime comrade General Henry Goddard Thomas re a promotion for a fellow officer. 3pp 8 x 5"  ptd/ink with a nice Fort Hamilton First Artillery logo,  sgd by Langdon as Colonel, 1st Artillery, U.S.A.
