The Filter'Tron was introduced in 1957 at the summer NAMM show in Chicago. In typically grand style, Gretsch called its brand new humbucking pickup the "Filter'Tron Electronic Guitar Head". The accompanying press release stated that "Good electronic reproducing units such as Hi-Fidelity, Stereophonic and such, have created a demand for perfect sound and performance.... It is with this knowledge in mind that we present the new Filter'Tron heads for guitar. The finest engineers in the country were engaged in the development of the Filter'Tron and their main object was to produce the greatest sound with as many color combinations as possible."

Filter'Tron pickups feature dual-coils and are designed to 'Filter' out the elec'Tron'ic hum normally associated with single-coil pickups, while adding a warmer tone, and a significant increase in output and sustain. These HS High Sensitivity versions were designed back in the early 2000s in conjunction with Tom 'TV' Jones when he was working in conjunction with Gretsch and Fender and feature alnico magnets like the originals. This pickup is gold plated and calibrated for the bridge position.
