located at the middle of the Appalachians in Virginia and is administered by America's

National Parks agency the NPS.

The park preserves and interprets this 199,173 acre section of ridgeline forest in the Blue Ridge Mountains with lakes and waterfalls, bears, deer, wild turkey and other wildlife. The Appalachian Trail travels through part of the park, see the trail movie "Walk in the Woods". There is a visitor center with a museum and gift shop.
