Grace Maccarone’s The Haunting of Grade Three Series: is a set of 3 paperback black and white illustrated books following Adam Johnson and his fellow classmates/ghostbusters as the investigate possible “hauntings” around them.  These late 1980’s to 1990 books feature an African-American boy as the protagonist; rare for the time.  The main character’s race is not discussed in the books, but is visible in the illustrations.  The story topics are about half ghost hunting and half students learning to cooperate with their classmates.  While, Adam wants to believe in ghost, he and his classmates use deductive reasoning to find the causes of hauntings.

To the best of my knowledge this series is out of print.   All three books were written by Grace Maccarone and illustrated by Kelly Oechsli.  The paperback books use large font and hand drawn illustrations.  There are no dust jackets for these editions.  The pages are glued into the spine.  The intended audience for this book is 2nd to 4th grade aged children.

The book is from a Pet and Smoke Free home.
