Maleficent is initially introduced as a cruel and vindictive fairy. She curses the infant Princess Aurora to prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die on her sixteenth birthday. However, Maleficent's heart softens when she sees Aurora as a young girl. She eventually helps to break the curse and save Aurora's life.
