Three-quarters green morocco, to matching cloth, Marbled endpages; all edges marbled. 4to; 10 inches tall inches xxiv, 349 pages. with 10 chromolithographic views and two maps (one hand-colored and folding of Norway on card-stock and of the Ymes-Field) and wood-engraved text illustrations.
The bindings are tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Moderate shelf handling wear; small pale stain to the upper corner of the frontispiece and title, minor foxing and toning to the first and last few leaves, names in ink on first blank page. 1885 bookplate of Robert Downs.

Record of Forbes' travels in Norway with additional journals documenting his time in France. The author was a professor of natural philosophy at the University of Edinburgh and developed the "Forbes data set", still used today in statistics.
Forbes had previously studied in the Alps, where in 1841 he had been a colleague of Louis Agassiz. The chromolithographs are by Louis Haghe at Day & Son.
