From a New England farmhouse estate sale. Not sure it's exact purpose, could be various uses. Would practically make an excellent ice fishing skimmer. 

Definitely something that was hand made, so it's a primitive piece. Would make an  excellent decorative piece as well. 

It's pretty large in size, and measures about 22" in length, with the head or skimmer portion being about 7 3/4" in diameter

My best guess is its zinc material, not aluminum, just based mostly on the weight of it. It's a prettt heavy duty tool. It weighs 1 lb 4 oz

It is in good overall condition, solid, obvious surface rust on the metal handle section. Wood is in good shape.
