On August 29 Ukraine marks the Day of Remembrance of
the Fallen Defenders of Ukraine. This date was established to honour the memory
of military personnel and members of volunteer formations who laid down their
lives for their country, as a reminder of one of the bloodiest events of the Russian-Ukrainian
war in the east of the country - the Ilovaisk tragedy. The "green
corridor" that was deadly for our defenders then ran through sunflower
fields, so the sunflower became the symbol of the Day of Remembrance of the
Fallen Defenders of Ukraine. Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine on
February 24, 2022 triggered a new wave of heroism, resilience of defenders of
Ukraine and, unfortunately, painful losses. Our memory of them is bright,
our gratitude to them is boundless, and our respect is the highest. We remember
and will continue to remember! The reproduction of the painting
"Sorrow" (2016) by Honoured Artist of Ukraine Oleh Shupliak is used
as a plot of the postage stamp, dedicated to Remembrance Day.
