Superb Satsuma bowl of the Late Meiji period by SHIZAN, one of the very best artists in the Kyo-Satsuma style based in Kobe, Japan. He worked extensively with Kinkozan and Yabu Meizan. He exhibited at many European Exhibitions winning numerous awards. This bowl is dating around 1910 and is a good example of the quality and style of this Satsuma Artist. 



The lobed bowl shows Japanese stylised scenes of peacocks by a mountain stream. The work is of the very highest quality and much of the decoration is highlighted in gold gilding.  The exterior of the bowl shows Maple leaves with gilding A lovely addition to any Satsuma Collection.
Dimensions: Diameter just under 16cm (6") and depth 7cm (just under 3")
The bowl is in excellent condition.

I am listing in the next few days a whole series of Satsuma bowls and Vases from this late Meiji period which you will be able to see the similarities in styles and decoration. All of them are exceptionally good examples of this type of work and have historical importance in documenting the Satsuma style in the early years of the 1900's.
