These fluted dowels are made of beech hardwood for strength, stability and durability. Dowels are commonly used to hold components in a fixed position, to preserve alignment between components, to reinforce joints or as a cheap alternative to mortise and tenon joints. They can be used in primary manufacturing processes, in repairs to existing furniture and in many DIY and craft projects.

Fluted dowels allow air or excess glue to escape when being installed into blind holes, making them easier to insert or hammer in and preventing possible splitting of the job. The ends of the dowels are chamfered to aid insertion.
