Maxfield Parrish's - "Circe's Palace" - Original Framed Color Illustration, Double-Matted, blue inner, cream outer, (facing page 258) from the 1910 1st Edition of Hawthorne's "A Wonderbook and Tanglewood Tales".  Image is 6 1/4" x 5", outermost frame dimensions are 11 1/2”x 9 1/2”. Excellent color and condition.   The re-purposed (and blued) frame is newer but works quite well.  It is backed with acid-free rag board backing, new hardware and dustcover November, 2023, and ready to hang. A very nice cost/size alternative to the full-size print (Ref. Flacks Guide, 4th Ed. page 39, last photo, #22). This first appeared as the color frontispiece in the January 25, 1908 issue of Collier’s Magazine featuring ‘Greek Mythology I’, issued as a print the same year and finally as an illustration (and the cover) of Hawthorne’s 1910 book, and several subsequent editions. Note: The first 14 photos are taken without glass to avoid reflection/glare issues; photos 15 (slight angle) 16 and 17 after completion of project. Photos 18, 19 & 20, the book itself, is shown for provenance only and is ‘Not’ included.  Please visit my other Parrish listings. I refund shipping charges over actual.
