USS SHENANDOAH ZR-1 Memorial US Navy Airship cover pictorially

postmarked at Lakehurst, NJ on June 25, 2021. Blue photo cachet

#3198 of the proud airship moored to the USS Patoka by Alvin Eckert #9964 USCS.

Cover with a DIY matte and 5x7 frame, makes a fine gift!

USS Shenandoah: On September 3, 1925 the 680 foot rigid Navy airship

encountered a severe storm and crashed into the ground in Ava, Ohio.

It was the first USN zeppelin type lighter than air craft used by the

naval forces and her overall lift was decreased when the navy switched from

hydrogen to helium after the Hindenburg disaster. The airship program

continued into the 1930s but most of the craft were not practical

for recon efforts especially in bad weather.

Cover franked with 4 cent Naval Aviation stamp on a 55 cent flag stamp.

Seller has covers for all of the USN airships, USS Akron, USS Macon. Two Goodyear Blimps and the new (2023) LTA Pathfinder 1 airship, plus 2015 JLENS Aerostat. Check out my other items!

These items make fine Airship fan gifts when mounted on a colored matte

and placed in a 5x7 picture frame.    Free US Shipping!
