Here we have a fine quality cased Vintage Sterling Silver Three Piece Christening Set. The set consists of an egg cup, a spoon and a napkin ring. The interior of the egg cup and of the bowl of the spoon are gilded. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind, making this ideal as a gift.

The christening set was made in Birmingham by the Angora SP Company and dates to 1972. Founded in Birmingham in 1919, the Angora Silver Plate Co initially just produced silver plated items but in 1921 they began to produce Sterling Silver flatware and some small items of tableware, although electroplate remained their principal output. During WW2 the company relocated to Sheffield along with many other silver flatware makers but, unlike most, they returned to Birmingham after the war. The company continued trading into the 1970s.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the barest minimum of superficial surface wear. It seems likely that this set has never been used and just kept as a treasured gift. The only issue is that one of the two catches on the front of the box is missing but the other one still holds the lid securely shut. Please make sure to view all the photographs as these form part of the description.

The egg cup is 4.6cm / 1.8ins in diameter and stands 5.2cm / 2ins high. The napkin ring is 4.4cm / 1.7ins in diameter and 2.5cm / 0.98ins deep. The spoon is 11.1cm / 4.4ins long. The set of three pieces together, unboxed, weighs in at a very respectable 72.6g / 2.56oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on all three pieces are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter X for 1972 and the A.S.P.Co makers' mark for the Angora Silver Plate Co.
