Vladimir Isakovich Sychev was born in 1917 in Ukraine. His interest in artistic creativity was instilled in him by his father, a wooden potter.

In 1940, after graduating from the Odessa Art School, he moved to Leningrad, where he entered the All-Russian Academy of Arts. He studied under the guidance of A.T. Matveev.

In 1941, after the start of the Great Patriotic War, he participated in defense work and was an air defense fighter. In 1942, students and teaching staff of the Academy of Arts were evacuated to Samarkand. The difficult winter of the siege became a continuation of the work of Vladimir Sychev and was reflected in many of his works.

In 1947, after graduating from the Academy of Artistic Work at the Art and Craft School and the Leningrad Art School. V.A. Serova. Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR since 1948.

In the 50s, while working on small sculptures, he began collaborating with the Leningrad Porcelain Factory. Based on his models, a famous series of works on the theme of ballet was created (“The Dying Swan”, “Ballerina with a Flower”, “Shurale”, “Spanish Dance”, etc.). Porcelain figures were very popular, they could be seen among the maids of most Soviet apartments.

In the 60-80s, Vladimir Sychev was engaged in monumental sculpture. Over several areas of active creative activity, he created more than 300 works of bronze, granite and marble. Among the most famous: high reliefs and bas-reliefs at the Frunzenskaya, Narvskaya and Ploshchad Vosstaniya metro stations, a monument to S.M. Kirov at the Elektrosila plant, a bust of V.I. Lenin in the Tauride Palace, a sculptural composition in the Tauride Garden . .

Memorial ensembles, compositions, monuments, the author of which was Vladimir Sychev, were installed in many cities of the former USSR - Ufa, Kerch, Saratov, Evpatoria, Arkhangelsk, Severomorsk, Murmansk region, Art. Kamenskaya, Krasnodar region, town. Kotelva in Poltava region, Chebarkul in Chelyabinsk region, Tokmak in Zaporozhye region, etc.

Being one of the most advanced practitioners of Soviet monumental sculpture, Vladimir Sychev created a large number of busts of state and party leaders, military leaders, figures of science, culture and art - V.I. Lenin, V.M. Molotov, G.K. Zhukov, P. I. Tchaikovsky, N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov, A. S. Pushkin, M. Yu. Lermontov.

Vladimir Sychev died in 1995, continuing to work until his last days. Unfortunately, in the post-Soviet years many of his projects remained unrealized. The artist’s studio preserved many sketches, models, busts, and small sculptural forms.
