- The Indian Head cent, also known as an Indian Head penny, was a one-cent coin produced by the United States Bureau of the Mint from 1859 to 1909. It was designed by James Barton Longacre, the Chief Engraver at the Philadelphia Mint.
- $0.01 in 1893 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $0.35 today, an increase of $0.34 over 130 years.
- In 1893, it cost about 14 cents a pound to bring home the bacon. Today, the price of bacon depends on the ingredients and how fancy it is, but it can cost about $5 or more.
