★No album in the history of modern American music deserves the title of ``original jazz classic.'' This album is one of two Riverside albums recorded at the Bill Evans Trio's legendary final show, on the last day of the show at the Village Vanguard, bassist Scott Ruffalo This work was recorded just 10 days before his tragic death. This recording has long been praised for capturing the essence of the three-way interaction that characterized the trio of Evans, Ruffalo, and Paul Motian. The mainstream of piano trios at this time was to showcase the abilities of leading soloists with rhythmic accompaniment. But the Bill Evans Trio took a different approach, creating an interactive and well-rounded trio. The album also features an emphasis on Ruffalo's innovative solo work and songwriting.

<Personnel> Bill Evans (p) Scott Lafaro (b) Paul Motian (ds)
Recorded live at the Village Vanguard, New York on June 25, 1961.
