This is a very special, very sweet 1930s Tramp Art box for sewing, trinkets or jewelry. A purple satin pincushion crowns the top of this naive piece of folk art, and the wood is white with lots of sawtooth pink trim and a pink wooden bow. So unusual--early Tramp Art seems to have seldom been painted like this. It tells a vivid story: clearly lovingly crafted at home with a cigar box (La Palina) and other materials on hand when there was no money to buy gifts, the box is lined with rare pastel vintage Christmas wrapping paper with pointsettias and stars. The odds are good that this was an unexpected gift found under the tree in the heart of the depression. This may sound corny, but I believe this humble and beautiful survivor of the Great Depression radiates the love it was made with. Please see photos and let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.
