This is the best PowerBook you can get - it rocks the 1.67 GHz PowerPC 7447A CPU and a 17.0" widescreen display with the special high-res 1680x1050 panel. I upgraded it to 2GB RAM (the maximum) and put in a 120GB solid state drive.
Everything's working fine. The battery shouldn't be relied on because it's 18 years old, but OS X reports a 50-minute charge and 347 cycles. Screen is great, DVD drive is great. The housing has a few minor scuffs and scrapes. A couple of the keyboard keys have light fading. The old gray rubber feet were missing, so I added new black ones. I installed fresh, fully upgraded copies of OS X 10.4.11 "Tiger" and 10.5.7 "Leopard" on the two main partitions, and made smaller partitions to hold bootable images of the stock install discs. The Tiger side of things has a fully working Classic Mode setup with an OS 9 System Folder ready to go. Shipping cost includes full insurance. |
