German Warships 1815-1945, Volume One and Volume Two, by Erich Groner (Volume One: Major Service Vessels, Volume Two: U-Boats and Mine Warfare Vessels)

Books published by Conway Maritime Press in 1990 and 1991, 244 and 240 pages. Both Hardbacks with dust jackets - c.25cm by 30cm (A58N4)

From the inside front fly leaf: This is the English translation of the standard work on German naval vessels. Erich Groner's highly regarded book is, quite simply, the most detailed and authoritative reference work ever published on the subject. It provides data on the design, construction, dimensions, machinery and armament, and comments on the performance, seakeeping, and service history for around 10,000 ships and craft

Although Groner himself died in 1965 his work has been continued, amended and vastly expanded by DieterJung and Martin Maass who were able to use documentation sequestered by the Allies in 1945 and not available for the first edition. The result is greater depth of detail (particularly regarding fates), reliable figures, and a broader range of coverage, which now reaches down to the smallest auxiliary. The illustration, which has been the subject of almost as much original research as the text, consists entirely of constant-scale line drawings of every ship for which sufficient information is available (even uncompleted designs), often including deck views as well as sheer plans, and where necessary significant modifications.

Condition of the books are generally good. The dust jackets have several minor scuffs and blemishes, and light nibbling, creasing and wear along the edges and corners, but the spines are intact and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound. Both front fly leafs have been price clipped

When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your book in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
