This is a large copper coin from Britain dated 1771.
So it looks like a half penny of George III on first glance but if you look again it is a much larger flan, It may have been made from a regular halfpenny dated 1771 but I do NOT think so.
If it was then the full height of the portrait would be about 23.8mm tall. This portrait bust is 32mm tall. Not really distorted either as you would expect it would be if you got a regular halfpenny and put a hammer to it to spread it a bit.
So this coin is much thinner, its a plain edge, it is 31.8mm dia. x 1.1mm deep and it weighs approx. 9.8grams.
Has it been ROLLED to create the larger size and if so would this actually roll the portrait image larger. I do not know really. The die axis is as it should be for a Spink 3774 coin.
If anyone knows what this coin is I am all ears and would be grateful if you could let me know. I have put a hefty price on it as I want to know more about the coin really. Cheers in advance, Lee
