1740 Loudon Devils Demon
Possessions Witchcraft Exorcism Occult Grandier Sorcery
‘Cruel Effects of Diabolic Possession’ is a famous work on the accused demon
possession of Ursuline nuns, now known as the Loudon Possessions. Jean Mignon,
the nun’s confessor, made a plan for the nuns to fake being possessed and
denounce Urbain Grandier, who was accused of summoning evil spirits.
Nicolas Aubin’s account of this 17th-century event covers the
topics of witch burning at the stake, exorcisms, torture, accusation of
sorcery, and flagellation.
