Dr. Jess Moody
Pastor
As the pastor of a living fellowship, I am
bathed in a veritable baptism of great and
diversified music. We are fortunate to be
ministered to by a dynamic minister of music,
0. D. Hall, Jr. and a choir of deeply com-
mitted people.
Many Sundays I have sat on the rostrum awaiting the time to preach, not
really feeling up to the moment, emotionally or spiritually. Then 0. D. and
the choir begin presenting the full and invigorating harmony of some Christ
honoring theme
I turn and look into the faces of the beautiful people who give their time
for vocal stewardship. It is impossible to explain, but something good and
golden begins to take place in my heart. The music seems to excite the Christ
in my life. He claps His nail-scarred hands and I am able to tell the Sunday
throng that eternity has crashed into time and we can never be the same again.
Music is the universal theology, invading the psyche of the most rebellious of
men. It is the spoonful of sugar that makes the most stringent of spiritual
medicine go down - in a most delightful way.
The Ministry of Music of First Baptist
Church, West Palm Beach, is both a showcase
of Christian talent and a laboratory for
discovery and development-all dedicated to
the principle that talents are given by God to
be developed and used for His service.
O.D. Hall, Jr.
The Sanctuary Choir, the principal service choir, presents an anthem each
week in the morning worship service (televised live in color throughout the
Gold Coast and Bahamas). They participate in Sunday evening services in the
Chapel-by-the-Lake, and in revivals, festivals, and community programs.
Among the larger seasonal works recently performed by the choir with
orchestra are: Bach: CHRISTMAS ORATORIA, Handel: MESSIAH, Dubois:
THE SEVEN LAST WORDS OF CHRIST, Prentice: THE D*AY OF RESUR-
RECTION, Caldwell: OF TIME AND ETERNITY, Thompson: THE
NATIVITY ACCORDING TO ST. JUDE, Coleman: CITY OF THE KING,
and Mickelson: THIS SAME JESUS.
