Médine, anciennement Yathrib, est une ville d'Arabie saoudite, capitale de la province de Médine, située dans le Hedjaz. Elle a plusieurs noms en arabe : Al-Madīna (المدينة) « la ville » ; Al-Madīna al-Munawwara (المدينة المنورة), son nom officiel et qui se traduit par « la ville illuminée », Madīnatu an-Nabî (ﻣﺩﯾﻨﺔ ﺍﻟﻨﺒﻲ) « la ville du prophète », ou Madīnatu Rasûl Allah (مدينة رسول الله) « la ville du messager d'Allah ». Ses habitants sont les Médinois. C'est là que vint s'installer en 622 à l'hégire le prophète de l'islam, Mahomet, après qu'il eut, selon le Coran, reçu l'ordre de Dieu de quitter La Mecque, ville distante de plus de 430 km. C’est aussi là qu’il mourut et fut enterré en 632. La ville abrite son tombeau dans la Mosquée du Prophète ainsi que les premiers califes Abou Bakr et Omar, les autres personnes importantes de l'islam restant au cimetière Al-Baqi.

Medina, officially Al-Madinah al-Munawwarah (Arabic: المدينة المنورة, romanized: al-Madīnah al-Munawwarah, lit. 'The Enlightened City', Hejazi Arabic pronunciation: [almadiːna almʊnawːara]) and also commonly simplified as Madīnah or Madinah (المدينة, al-Madina, Hejazi Arabic pronunciation: [almadiːna]), is the capital of Medina Province in the Hejaz region of western Saudi Arabia. One of the most sacred cities in Islam, the estimated population as of 2020 is 1,488,782, making it the fifth-most populous city in the country. Located at the core of the Medina Province in the western reaches of the country, the city is distributed over 589 km2 (227 sq mi), of which 293 km2 (113 sq mi) constitutes the city's urban area, while the rest is occupied by the Hejaz Mountains, empty valleys, agricultural spaces and older dormant volcanoes.
