This illustrated calendar is the 1952 Whitbread Brewery calendar and is titled "The Whitbread Almanack of British Ships".  The artwork is by J. F. Doeve and the accompanying text is by Frank C. Bowen.  It comes with the ORIGINAL tissue guard for the front cover - each monthly illustrated page also has a tissue guard on which is printed the accompanying text details for each image.   Each month of the year features an artist drawn image of a historically significant British ship from the eighteenth century to 1938.   The pages of the calendar are held together by a metal spiral which incorporates a metal hanging loop.  The calendar measures 37.8cm x 29.3cm including the metal spiral and all the months of the year are present.   

The calendar is in a good plus condition.   The tissue guard of the front cover is a little detached from the metal spiral and has some small tears at the top edge, it also has a small piece of loss and a small tear at right hand edge, some general light creases, a couple of horizontal heavier creases and some small marks.  The main part of the calendar has some general edge and corner rubs, very light crease along top edge of front cover, front cover is detached for seven perforations at right hand end of spiral and for one perforation at left hand end of spiral, creases at top right hand corner of front cover, small, light creases at bottom right hand corner of front cover, some small, light marks and some tiny marks to front cover, very light browning to "Introduction" page with the odd tiny mark, some small and tiny creases at some corners of pages, just a hint of browning along edges of tissue guards, small crease at bottom of some pages, some very light ripples to tissue guards, the odd very small and tiny mark to tissue guards and pages, the odd other small, light crease or bend at edges, some tiny dark specks and some very light creases to June page, the odd tiny rub to pages, several small, light creases at edges, some very light grubbiness, just a hint of browning, some tiny marks and some tiny dents to background of first page, light browning, some light marks and some tiny marks to reverse of pages, small crease at bottom left hand corner of August and September pages and of September tissue guard, two tiny nicks at bottom of left hand edge of September page, some light finger creasing at bottom of pages, some bumps to edges, small bumps and creases at right hand corners of rear board.
