When the Railways Came - How the Local Villages changed and grew

Published by the Banstead History Research Group, 38 pages. Slim rectangular paperback - c.14cm by 21cm (N6363)

From the rear side cover: This booklet is based on the talks, When the Railways Came presented by the Banstead History Research Group as part of the May 2005 Banstead Arts Festival. Although there is much material available on the railways, this book aims to provide the background to why the railways came to Banstead, their construction and of the lasting effect that they have had on the area. The booklet is illustrated throughout with several black and white photographs, and sections include:

The Building of the Epsom Downs Railway
The Construction of the Tattenham Corner Line
The Effect on the Villages of Banstead and Nork
The Effect on Woodmansteme, Chip stead, Kingswood and Tadworth

The condition of the book is generally very good. The covers are clean and bright, the spine is intact and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound. Their is a small price sticker on the rear side cover.

When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your book in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
