Vintage Central Pacific Railroad Brass Chamber Pot 11.75" Train Toilet

Spun Brass Chamber Pot With Metal Label From The Central Pacific Railroad's "Golden Spike Centennial" Celebration

~ 1969 ~

"NOTICE TO PASSENGERS: DO NOT EMPTY THIS TOILET OUT OF TRAIN WINDOW"

Offered is an original novelty item from 1969 sold as part of the 100 year centennial celebration of the "Golden Spike". The beefy chamber pot (toilet) is of a quality spun brass about 12" across and 7" deep with a soldered brass handle and an enameled metal plate as shown. These were made in England specifically for the centennial. To set the record straight, while chamber pots were used on early trains, these pots are not antiques, not spittoons and probably not actually used on the trains as often claimed on other sites. But what they are may be better as they were made in England the late 60's as a promotional item for the 1969 "Golden Spike" 100 year anniversary. The enamel over metal label as shown is the real eye catcher, with the fanciful wording "NOTICE TO PASSENGERS: DO NOT EMPTY THIS TOILET OUT OF THE TRAIN WINDOW" (which was actually a big issue in the mid-1800's). It also reads "Central Pacific Railroad" on the label bottom. Nice railroad item! Ready too ship.
