If you look at the date code from the box, you see it was made in 1984, April 13, 1984, to be exact. There's a youtube video on how to translate the GE date code so you can see for yourself.

While everyone thinks of the Sony Walkman for portable radios, the fact is most people used the GE brand because every store carried them. I had several of them back in the day.
