Wadborough, A Portrait of a village in Worcestershire in the 1950s, by Rev W.D.R. Smith

Book published by Aspect, 66 pages. Slim paperback (N7360X1)

From the rear side cover: The aim of this book is to portray village life in the decade following World War Two in Wadborough, a small hamlet in Worcestershire, about seven miles south of Worcester. This was an era when everyone in the village knew everyone else by name, where they lived and what they did for a living. It was an age when only a handful had a car or telephone. Mains electricity, water and television were to arrive in the 1950s. All children attended the same school until secondary education when most went to the secondary modern school and a few were admitted to the grammar schools. Sundays were for church. Weekdays for school and occupations. Weekends were for shopping and seasonal work on the land. Life was lived in community. Happily, much of this aspect of the village endures to this day!

The condition of the book is generally very good. The covers are clean and bright, the spine is tight and intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.

When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your book in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
