Titel: Live in Zurich 1977 Zustand: Neu Title Format: CD Description: Between 1965 and 1984, regular jazz concerts took place at the Zurich Radio station under the title 'Jazz Live'. Featuring a house trio lead by pianist Klaus Koenig, they were joined by well known international musicians in one hour live broadcasts. The shows attained something of a cult status and were widely listen to by audiences that actually went beyond regular jazz fans.
This is the first of the 'Zurich Radio - Jazz Live' recordings to be officially released, the programme features two separate concerts from 1977, the first with tenor saxophonist Sal Nistico and the second with clarinettist Tony Scott. Stylistically, it might seem a strange combination of musicians to put on one CD! Sal Nistoco's main background is firmly within in the swing era through his tenure with the big bands of Woody Herman and Count Basie, whilst Tony Scott, who though from a traditional background that included working with Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan, went on to explore exotic forms that included new age and eastern mysticism. This would seem to put both musicians at odds with one another, but the listener need have no such fears. The programme is a set of straight ahead jazz performances featuring a programme of well-known standards throughout.
