The lot contains, in all likelihood, a presentation
prototype of a monument to participants in the “January Uprising of 1918.” With
the author's signature of the sculptor Vasily Pavlovich Vinaykin, and the
original monument itself was installed in the capital of Ukraine, Kiev, in
1967, in the year of the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution, at the
mass grave of the uprising participants.
The authors of the monument are sculptors Vasily
Pavlovich Vinaykin and Vladimir Vasilyevich Klimov, architect Vasily
Georgievich Gnezdilov. The prototype itself was signed by sculptor Vasily
Pavlovich Vinaykin.
The monument was erected in 1967 for the 50th
anniversary of the October Revolution of 1917 over the mass grave of the
participants in the uprising. “The ideological role of this pedestal was to
praise the Bolsheviks, who staged an armed rebellion against the Ukrainian
Central Rada and the Ukrainian People’s Republic.
On January 22, 1918, the Central Rada of Ukraine
proclaimed the Ukrainian People's Republic an independent state. On January 29,
a Bolshevik uprising began in Kyiv with the goal of overthrowing the Central
Rada, which was suppressed on February 4. After a short time, the Bolsheviks
managed to take Kyiv, after which until 1920, when the city was again taken by
the Red Army, power in the capital of Ukraine changed about 10 more times.
The so-called “January uprising” is an armed uprising
in Kyiv on January 16-22, 1918, organized by the Kyiv committee of the Russian
Bolshevik Party against the Ukrainian Central Rada and the Ukrainian People's
Republic during the offensive of Soviet Russian troops on Kyiv. The mutiny
lasted seven days and accelerated the occupation of Kyiv by the Bolsheviks.
On December 23, 2023, the monument was demolished by
the city authorities of Kyiv; its further fate is not reported.
