Authorized edition published by Bernhard Tauchnitz in Leipzig, Germany in 1883. Handsome deeply embossed binding with brass corner medallions on front and back covers. Front cover features a raised center with gilt lettering. Back cover features embossed center medallion. 4 raised bands and gilt lettering on the spine.


Good condition overall. Covers and spine show scuffs from age and use. Slight cracking at top left edge of front cover. Spine is intact with no cracks. Brown floral design endpapers and red stained page edges. Pages are slightly browned but clean and tight. Slight water staining on last 2 blank pages at end of book.


Sweet hand-written inscription “Christmas 1912 - Papa from Marie.” A very cool 141-year-old survivor, given as a gift 112 years ago!
