Faceplates still have a place in every wood turner’s workshop. I remember this was once the main way for holding a bowl for the whole of the turning process. Look at the base of any old bowls and you will most likely see the tell tale signs of screw holes, unless a glue block was used as an interface between the faceplate and the timber. Now we have chucks but we still have to mount the piece on the lathe to form a spigot.
