This listing is for a well-marked 1911 Antique Dutch Silver Windmill Serving Fork. This beautiful fork measures 9 1/4" and weighs 51 grams or 1.64 troy ounces.

On the top of the handle is a windmill with moving blades. Above the tines of the fork is pictured a windmill and and a couple of houses.

There are several hallmarks on this serving fork. On one of the windmill blades is the silver sword mark used between 1906-1953. At the base of the windmill is the Lion Passant mark with the number 2 which represents a level of silver fineness of at least 0.833 which means at least 83% silver. Above the tines are 4 different marks. It is marked "AM" for the silversmith, another Lion Passant mark with the number 2, the Minerva Head which is a duty mark with the letter "M" in its hair for Schoonhoven assay office (which of the 17 assay offices), and finally the letter B in a circle which is the date mark for 1911.

It is interesting to think about the journey this serving fork took from the time the silversmith made this in 1911 until the time my grandfather purchased it sometime in the 1970s or 1980s in the United States. This fork lacks the export mark so it was originally made to be sold in the netherlands, but at some point someone, perhaps a tourist or perhaps someone moving to the states, brought it over. I have owned it since the early 1990s when it was given to me by my grandfather.
