This 452 foot 16K ton SC Class battleship was built by NY Shipbuilding. She was launched on 26 May 1908 and commissioned on 4 Jan 1910. She had eight 12 inch guns, twenty-two three inch guns, two 3 pounders, eight one pounders and two 21 inch submerged torpedo tubes. The ship was heavily armored and considered America's 2nd dreadnought. The proud new vessel served in pre-First World War Atlantic Fleet. She made voyages to Europe, and Caribbean, including the US interventions in Haiti and Mexico. During the First World War she escorted a convoy part-way to France, but trained sailors along the US Atlantic coast for the most part.

In February-July 1919 she acted as a troop transport bringing home over 4,000 servicemen in four voyages. In the 1920s she made a cruise to the Pacific and returned by the new Panama Canal. After a voyage to Europe she was decommissioned in 1921 and sold to be recycled into scrap metal in 1924 in accordance with the Washington Naval Treaty.
