February 20 in Ukraine is the Day of Remembrance of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred. On this day, they remember the tragic events of January-February 2014, when mass executions of protesters took place during the Revolution of Dignity. On February 20, in the center of the capital, on Maidan Nezalezhnosti, most of the activists died.

On February 20, 2014, in the center of the capital of Ukraine, the largest number of people died - 48. They, along with other 54 dead and mortally wounded participants in peaceful protests during the winter of 2013-2014 and five Maidan activists who died in the spring of 2014, the territorial integrity of Ukraine, were called Heroes Heavenly Hundred.

The events of that day became the culmination of the Revolution of Dignity. A very high price was paid for not returning to the post-Soviet model of relations between government and society, abandoning the “multi-vector” foreign policy course, and affirming the development of Ukraine as a democratic European country - human lives.

In order to commemorate the citizens who died during the Revolution of Dignity in the struggle for the ideals of democracy, human rights and freedoms, the European future of Ukraine, thanks to which the course of the history of our state was changed, the Day of Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred was established.

The memory of the feat of the Heavenly Hundred is revered under the slogan “Grateful for freedom!”
