This is an elegant circular Art Deco Sterling Silver Open Photo Frame for a 4 inch diameter photograph. The stepped circular base is weighted for stability and has a bakelite inset to prevent scratching. The top of the base is domed and has a line decorated semi-circular holder, slightly angled backwards, for the two circular panes of glass which hold the photograph.

The photo frame was made by silversmiths Collett & Anderson and assayed in London in 1933. Founded in the early 1920s, Collett & Anderson were based in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter but had virtually all of their pieces assayed in London. They principally made dressing table items but their mark is also seen on photo frames and occasionally tableware. The firm ceased trading around the start of the Second World War in 1939.

Condition is very good, with just some truly tiny dings around the bottom rim of the base plus the overall superficial surface wear that has to be expect after 90 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs as these form part of the description.

The frame measures 10.3cm / 4ins in diameter across the front and stands 13cm / 5.1ins high. It weighs in at 183.0g / 6.45oz including the glass and the weighting material in the base.

The hallmarks, on the upper side of the base at the back, are a little rubbed but still easy to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter s for 1933 and the C & A makers' mark for Collett & Anderson.
