Maxfield Parrish’s “Proserpina” (‘And The Sea Nymphs’) Original Unframed Color Illustration (facing page 288) with tissue lining still attached from the 1910 1st Edition of Hawthorne's "A Wonder Book And Tanglewood Tales". Image is 6 1/4" x 5", outermost page dimensions are 9 1/2”x 7 1/4”. Great muted color and excellent condition. MP signature barely discernible in bottom left corner (photo #6). Proserpina was originally painted for, and appeared as the color frontispiece in the April 23, 1910 issue of Collier’s Magazine featuring Greek Mythology VII, issued as a print the same year and as an illustration in Hawthorne’s 1910 book and several subsequent editions. A nice cost/size alternative to the full size print (Ref. Flack’s 4th Ed. Page 51 (photo #12). These look great matted and framed.
