SnakeFruit (Salacca zalacca) - is a kind of palm with edible fruit. It is also known as salak. In English it is called salak or snakefruit, while its scientific name is Salacca zalacca. This fruit is called snake fruit because its skin is similar to snake scales. Salak plants are plants that grow well in the lowlands to an altitude of 500 m above sea level, with tropical and sub-tropical climate types. Under suitable environmental conditions, salak trees will bear fruit at the age of 3 years. Young salak plants/young shoots of salak prefer to grow in the shade. Generally, young salak or snakefruit seedlings are planted under a place with lots of shady trees on it.
This plant is cross pollinated. So you will get 30 female seeds and 5 male seeds. Plants from male seeds will later act as pollinators for plants from female seeds. Plants from male seeds will not be able to bear fruit !
