Flush mount locks require no mortising and need only to be screwed in from the back side of the door or drawer front.
Construction of this lock type usually allows the bolt to go through the lock and come out from the left or right side, so most flush mount locks can be mounted on both left and right cabinet doors. The majority of surface mount locks have a two-way keyhole, making it possible to use these locks on cabinet doors and drawers.
Surface mount locks are widely used on grandfather clocks, china and curio cabinets, wardrobes, armoires, and other furniture doors and drawers.
Full mortise locks require installation into a deep cut in the edge of the piece.
This lock type is commonly found on roll-top desks, cabinet doors and drawers.
Half mortise locks require mortising into the backside and edge of the piece and mount flush into the wood.
The most common application of half mortise locks is in restoring or making roll-top desks, cabinet doors and drawers, and more.
