A large drachma copper coin issued in ancient Egypt during the Ptolemaic era. This large copper coin was issued during the reign of Ptolemy III.
The obverse depicts the portrait of Zeus, the great god of Greek mythology. The god Zeus was identified with the great god Amon in Egyptian mythology in Ptolemaic Egypt. On the side of its head, a winding horn is added, which is a symbol of the god Amon.
The reverse side represents the Great Eagle, the sacred bird of the god Zeus. With both feet, he grasps the weapon of the god Zeus, the thunder haze (keraunos), indicating that this eagle is a symbol of Zeus. The eagle also symbolized the priesthood and kingship of the Ptolemaic dynasty in Egypt.
