This is a unique piece of history, a Krajina Serbia Army M89 Oak Leaf Pattern Camo Cover for a helmet with badge from the 90s city of Vukovar in today Croatia. The cover features a distinctive camo pattern and is a great addition to any Militaria collection. The badge is from the Serb/Croatian Vukovar conflict, adding extra historical significance. The cover is an original item and was manufactured in Serbia in 1992, making it a must have for any collector of original period Items from this era.
The Republic of Serbian Krajina was created in 1990 within the borders of present day Croatia and supported by the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia during the Croatian War of Independence. The unrecognized state ceased to exist in 1995 after Croatian forces overran the majority of its territory and declared itself the Republic of Croatia.
Aside from the Yugoslavian National Army (JNA), there were two primary Serbian Krajina forces opposing the Croatian bid for independence: the Serbian Army of the Republic of Serbian Krajina - or Krajina Serb Army - and the Krajina Police, the latter of which included Special Police units. Although Serbian Krajina units wore distinctive insignia, they were outfitted by Yugoslavia and used the same equipment as the JNA and Yugoslavian Police. This extended to the use of camouflage uniforms, nearly all of which were Yugoslavian in origin (although there were some exceptions).
Made to fit m59 / m85 Yugoslavian steel helmet, can be a bit of struggle to get it on the helmet and to make it fit.
