I have up for sale a fantastic small antique circa 1860s - 1870s William W. Harding Patent Leather Bound Photo Album with gorgeous gilt edge pages ,and fancy clasp closure. It measures approx 4-3/8" x 5-1/4" x 2" . There are approx 24 images in all , roughly 19 tintypes and 5 cdv's . The photo's originate from the Fox Cites area - Green Bay and Kaukanna , Wisconsin - no that's not a typo - a few of the cdv's are printed J H CROWNS Photography - Kaukanna, Wi . One of the cdv's is of a handsome young black man which I have shown in one of my pics. That cdv was from J H Crowns photography. The first inner cdv which I did not choose to show in the pics was made by C F SCHROEDER Photographer 118 Washington St. Green Bay , Wi. I do not see any names or writing to help identify any of the people in the cdv's or tintypes but as noted thankfully the back of the cdv's have the photographers names and cities.
The album is a just lovely , its finally detailed bound in stamped deep burgundy leather with gold gilt and recessed black borders. The page edges are wonderful - stamped with lovely floral designs and gold gilt. There are a few imperfections and such as noted in the condition report but overall its in real nice shape for the age.
I wish that I knew the backround on this item , I purchased it many years back and no longer remember where I got it . It had to be from a prominent family from the looks of it.
This item exemplifies the tasteful artistry of this area - attention to detail and beauty. Our forefathers took pride in the things that they produced, I wish the same applied today .
