Original quarter-plate daguerreotype of Oregon City and Willamette Falls, circa 1851-1853. A lumber mill with log chute, floating logs on the river, and several boats are visible.

The daguerreotypist L.H. Wakefield had a studio in Oregon City in 1853, possibly as early as 1851, so I assume this image was captured by him. In either case, 1851 or 1853, this is possibly the earliest known photograph of the falls; I was not able to find an earlier example.

Daguerreotype comes in a full case and is in excellent antique condition. I found it with its original seals still intact, which I removed and replaced with archival tape in order to clean the underside of the glass. The image itself was not touched or cleaned in any way, not even rinsed. The old seals are still inside of the case.
