Dug Relic Escutcheons – For Fowler & Cartridge Box

These two brass escutcheons were dug in Western Massachusetts. The shield shaped one is plane with a beveled edge. 1-1/4 inch high. It has two prongs for attaching to (I believe) a cartridge box from the 18th Century. It has a nice untouched patina.

The other one, is heart shaped with a decorative border, and has a center lug with extension broken off that most likely went through the wrist of a musket or fowling piece, just behind the breech tang, and fastened by nut beneath the trigger guard.

Both were recent finds from a working site.
