Wilson is a manufacturer I am much less familiar with. These were released in 2014 as a 100th anniversary model that were designed along the lines of a “classic” model from the 1970’s. Wilson’s naming in the past 10 years has become really “letter-numbery” and is easy to confuse.

The Staff models have always been very high quality and these are no exception.

The styling is fantastic with knurls and diamond-like stampings on faces…they are handsome.

I read an old article from, like, 2015? and new buyers loved the feel but, oddly enough, there was a consensus on iron head covers. Has to be that they did not wear well.

These have held up better than many.

My take, my observations:

These are blades (SEE PICS with BALL) and are intended for a “+” ball striker, but I did notice that at address the short irons have a bit more offset than other blades that I am much more accustomed to seeing…and may play a little more forgiving? Also, the only spec sheet that I could find shows that they have higher-than-usual lofts than typical, 10 year old player-irons. 4 is 24° and 5-PW are 27°-47° at 4° increments. This should create higher ball flight and tremendous spin. Probably going to carry 10 yards less than most competitors if not middled. Also, the club faces look a little longer from heel to toe. Could it just be an illusion?

The condition is VG, overall.

Faces are strong VG and are milled. Per usual, I took individual pics of each face and purposely left each one dark to better see the condition. Soles and perimeters of head show typical wear. I read these are “forged” 8620 steel…which would mean, to me, they would need a higher nickel content added to plate with chrome. Which, by design, would make them harder than your 1025 carbon steel, for example, and more resistant to dings. I think they are 8620 steel forged “faces” not the entire club head. Bear with me, this does read like an essay. 🙂

I had to reset each ferrule as they were all loose. Some ferrules were dinged pretty badly so I made the best of it and, like always, I had to get them as “perfect” as I could so I hand-turned them. The heads are tight and have not dropped. I cranked down quite hard on them just to make sure what I was dealing with before doing anything.

I can tell these are reshafts for two obvious reasons, 1) the ferrules do not match stock and 2) the bands are not aligned with great precision.

Either way, this is cosmetic and the shafts are excellent.

KBS holds up better than most. FST uses better steel, IMO.

I paint-filled where I could. The “100” on the back did not hold paint well. Again, I am splitting hairs.

Winn Master Wrap Standard grips.

The grips are playable but show quite a bit of wear…they flake…never liked these grips personally, but I don’t like wraps in general.

This model has since been replaced with a different compound.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I will answer what I can.

Thank you and have a great day!
