Er wurde 1662 Hofmaler und Graveur des französischen Königs Ludwig XIV. Er lebte daraufhin mit seiner Familie im Louvre. Seine Kunst als Zeichner perfektionierte er in Paris bei seinem Onkel Israel Henriet, der mit Jacques Callot befreundet war. // Israel Silvestre (1621-1691) was a French painter and engraver. In 1662 he became court painter and engraver of the French king Louis XIV. He then lived with his family in the Louvre. He perfected his art as a draftsman in Paris with his uncle Israel Henriet, who was friends with Jacques Callot. Between the years 1630 and 1650, he travelled extensively through Italy, France and Spain, and later used the sketches from these trips for his etchings.
