The John F. Kennedy Half Dollar in this Porthole Display was designed by Gilroy Roberts and introduced into circulation in 1964 as a memorial to the 35th President.  The coins initially contained silver, but starting in 1971 the Kennedy Half Dollar contains no silver (except for special releases by the U.S Mint.)  A circulated coin is generally considered to be worth its face value of 50 cents.  In 2024, coins like this one are commonly offered at $1.  It is still favored by collectors and rarely found in circulation.  This coin came from a private collection.

The bust of President Kennedy by the American sculptor Jacques Lipchitz was unveiled in London in 1965 by his brother Senator Robert Kennedy.   The memorial was sponsored by over 50,000 readers of the Sunday Telegraph in amounts limited to £1.
This hand-made Porthole Display is a reference to John F. Kennedy’s decorated service in World War II as Captain of the PT-109.

Working from a 3D scan of the bust, 321Design enhanced the mesh; the STL file was downloaded from Cults3D.  At Cap’n Dan’s Kinetic Art, a large base was added, 3D printed, molded, and cast in solid polyurethane resin, along with the other components in the display.  Hand-finished by Capt.
