This is an original pair of documents, dated 1778, where Elijah Hubbard has paid Samuel Ingraham Jr. and Timothy Hall have signed pay orders for clothing and supplies delivered to Middletown...signed at lower right by Samuel Ingraham Jr. and Timothy Hall on front, docketed and dated on back. Each is about 4x8 inches, folds, else in overall good condition.

Elijah Hubbard (1745-1808) was a lawyer and merchant of Middletown and New London, Connecticut.

A Patriot of the American Revolution for CONNECTICUT with the rank of COMMISSARY.

A successful West India merchant both before and after the Revolutionary war, and during the war was commissary and superintendent of stores for the army. He was for twenty-eight years member of the General Assembly, and for a number of years was president of the Middletown Bank.
