This volume reprinted the rare original text from 1827. The author was named Superintendent of Indian Affairs in 1924, and visited Indian country in the summer of 1826 to witness the Chippewa tribe's ratification of the Treaty of Fond du Lac, in which the Chippewas acknowledged the sovereignty of the United States. The text contains valuable information about the Chippewas, including a vocabulary list of Chippewa words.
