Custer, the Seventh Cavalry, and the Little Big Horn : A Bibliography, Hardcover by O'keefe, Mike (EDT); Utley, Robert M. (FRW), ISBN 0870624040, ISBN-13 9780870624049, Brand New, Free shipping in the US

Michael O'Keefe is an amateur historian with more stamina than many professionals; he has compiled here a two-volume bibliography of adult literature in English that tells stories about the Battle of the Little Big Horn or the people and events immediately associated with it. It is the first such literature review in twenty-five years. Th covers both fiction and historical nonfiction from biographies to transcribed oral histories to Park Service pamphlets. Each entry is given a short gloss by O'Keefe, which includes explanation of the contents and usually the editor's opinion of the work. The editor reveals himself here as both very knowledgeable about battle details and an old-school historian; he can judge whether a historical account is correctly objective without wondering why his book is called Custer, the Seventh Cavalry, and the Little Big Horn and not Wiping out Long Hair at Greasy Grass River. However, he does includs in English by Indian as well as non-Indian authors that are historical rather than political or theoretical in tone, and books of narrative art by non-literate people who were there. This level of bibliographic work is a massive endeavor. It will be useful to any specialist reader doing historical research on the topic. The Arthur H.
